Program Description
“SPARKS Youth Leadership Camp” (SPARKS) is a one-year social innovative training and practice program. We intend to utilize social innovation to promote the balanced development of “Science, health and Civilization”, follow the thinking of “value-motivation-skill sets-action” and create a community of young leaders by coordinate their heads, hearts and hands (Knowledge + Passion + Action), cultivating the Self-awareness of leadership and social responsibility within (Society + Responsibility), while providing the path for them to influence more people and create social impact in the long run. With the guidance of young student leaders from Harvard, MIT, Wharton and other prestigious universities, participants of “SPARKS ” will participate the “I Can Innovate” practice camp (ICI) GYOUTH or our partner non-profit institutions to exercise skills they have learned (organizing, conflict management, leadership building, facilitation, and public speaking) and create social impact both in China and in the US.
Admitted participants will receive a two-week intensive and diverse leadership-training program in US. They will receive trainings directly modified from Harvard HKS leadership program and several other advanced and innovative education methods. They will also participate in an “GYOUTH Amazing Race” to experience the American life style and day-to-day encounters. After this training, participants will be placed into GYOUTH or our partner organization in China or the US (with their preferences and availability taken into account) and have the opportunity to develop their individual expertise, directly get involved in the planning, management, organizing, execution, curriculum design and teaching. A year after the original training camp, participants of “SPARKS ” will participate an international Science, Health, And Civilization Conference (SHACC, “shake”), to demonstrate their learning and practice achievements in front of famous scholars, entrepreneurs, politicians, educators as well as the newly selected participants of our second year program.
Our goals for the next two years:
Establish the SPARKS youth leadership program, to help the youth incorporate their heads (Knowledge), hearts (Passion), and hands (Action) while cultivate their Self-awareness of leadership and social responsibility (Society + Responsibility), and prepare them to become leaders of the future world.
Establish the “I Can Innovate” practice camp, help participants accumulate on site real life experiences, nurture their ability to think innovatively, to turn ideas into realities and to gain confidence through initiating and accomplishing projects. By providing them with a social challenge the program will be able to incubate their understanding of balanced development of science health and civilization.Through experiential training and practice, we let participants enjoy their own successes and learn lessons from confronting challenges so that they are better prepared for the future intellectually and mentally. The program will also provide the great opportunity for inter-cultural exchange and cross-boundary collaboration, make participants aware of the charm of teamwork and the importance of communication.
Create a SPARKS community of innovative young leaders, enlarge the space and capacity of global interactive learning and supporting, and create social impact together.
The reason we want to join this competition:
Harvard China Education Forum has a reputation for creating social impact through innovation with professionalism. We want to get to know more about others who are also interested in innovative education, learn from each other, and invite them to join our community. We hope to have the chance to interact and get feedback from experts in the field. We will provide our own experiences and potential opportunities for collaboration. More importantly, we create social value through education and want to provide innovative solutions for a better society.
